“VOICES BEYOND VALOR: ADDRESSING THE
NEED FOR IMPROVED MENTAL HEALTH
SUPPORT FOR AMERICA’S VETERANS TM”
“Voices Beyond Valor ”seeks to make an extraordinary difference in the lives of hundreds of thousands of Veterans by providing them with the most current health, medical, and other scientific information needed to improve their lives. The television and online program also will inform them of resources available today as week as what is coming in the future. Most of all, the show will ensure that Veterans know their challenges are shared by many and that they are not alone.
Aaron Harber, the award-winning television host and moderator of “The Aaron Harber Show TM” (HarberTV.com/Info and HarberTV.com/Awards), also serves as the Host and Moderator of “Voices Beyond ValoM.” The program takes a deep dive into the Mental Health challenges facing America’s Veterans and explores their Mental Health needs. It also will propose ways to improve the Veterans Health Administration’s efforts to adequately provide Mental Health services at this critical juncture when a new Administration is assuming leadership positions for Veterans Affairs.
“Voices Beyond Valor” will be an audio podcast and video program subset of the weekly television program, “The Aaron Harber Show” (currently on the PBS National Video Platform at bit.ly/Aaron-PBS). It will leverage Aaron’s vast array of scientific relationships from “The Aaron Harber Show,” ensuring access to the nation’s top professionals for on-air consultation. A number of prominent experts already have agreed to be guests on the program, including Dr. Joshua Brody (bit.ly/JoshBrody), Dr. Samuel Gandy (bit.ly/SamGandy) and Dr. Nora Volkow (bit.ly/VolkowNIH). Other Partners include the Veteran-focused Marcus Institute for Brain Health led by Professor and Brigadier General Kathleen Flarity (Ret.) (MedSchool.CUAnschutz.edu/MBIH).
“Voices Beyond Valor” will candidly address Mental Health crises, sharing untold stories of struggle and resilience. It will expose how difficult it can be for both Veterans and their families to navigate the VHA’s system. The program also will provide expert guidance on how to access support and best practices for those in need. Veterans will openly share their personal stories of both successes and failures in their interactions with the VHA.
The program will be a place where thousands of Veterans will be able to get valuable information, hear stories so they would know they are not alone, and see how much their fellow Americans do care about them. The ultimate goal is to make the shows an invaluable resource for thousands of Veterans across the country.
Subjects related to the challenges of returning Veterans reintegrating back into Society also will be a focus of the program along with revealing how Veterans perceive their treatment by the Public upon reentry and for years after having completed their service. The program will be structured to inform the General Public about the experiences and needs of Veterans, who often feel forgotten after completing their tours of duty. It also will discuss the best ways for family members, friends, acquaintances, and strangers (e.g., someone meeting a Veteran for the first time) to respond to Veterans’ needs.
